Hello SJO community, and happy new year!

On behalf of all of us at the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra, I wanted to extend a message of thanks to all of you who so generously supported us last year.

The SJO’s mission is to present the highest calibre of professional large jazz ensemble music in Saskatoon through our programming and by featuring local and nationally/internationally renowned jazz talent. Staging concerts that fulfill this mission is a privilege, and no small task. We are proud of our accomplishments over the past 5 seasons and we are excited that we are continuing to grow in healthy and exciting ways as an organization.

We rely on your support through everything you do to help us bring our visionary goals to fruition. From attending concerts, to donating to the SJO and/or SYJO online, to simply spreading the word about what we’re up to — it all helps us continue to bring our events to life and to move forward as a Charitable Status organization.

We have two concerts left in our regular 2019-2020 season. These include our musical tribute to Tommy Banks on January 18, 2020 and our celebration of the music of Stevie Wonder on May 23, 2020. We hope to see you at both of these performances! There will also be a free admission talk at the Remai Modern about the Life and Legacy of Tommy Banks. This talk will be on January 17, 2020 at 7:30 PM. We hope to see you there as well.

I am also incredibly excited about what we have in store for our 2020-2021 SJO season beginning next fall. We’ll have more to tell you soon about our 6th season soon!

If you ever want to reach out to us or if have questions, comments, feedback or suggestions about the SJO, SYJO, or about any of our programming, please know you can visit our website and reach out to our team directly. We appreciate feedback of any type, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. As well feel free to contact Nick Fanner is his capacity as Director of the Saskatoon Youth Jazz Orchestra at nick@saskatoonjazzorchestrasaskatoonjazzorchestra.com if you questions about the SYJO specifically.

I hope that the year ahead is an exceptionally positive one for you and that you’ll continue to enjoy what the SJO has to offer our community. These are trying times in our world, on many levels. We at the SJO/SYJO believe that music really does help ‘wash off the dust of everyday living.’ We believe that when we present thoughtfully curated high quality professional jazz orchestra music for our community to experience and enjoy, those involved on and off the Broadway Theatre stage at these events are a little less ‘dusty.’ As a result, they have a little bit more strength and resilience to take on and manage the many challenges inherent in this day and age in meaningful ways.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Dean McNeill
